SOCIAL MEDIA MAJOR TRENDS EXPLAINED | WHY I HATE THEM
By: Santos Nwachukwu
As always I have been assigned to read more articles in a week than I thought I'd see in my lifetime and so far I'm still recovering from PTSD. However I found these articles very important and eye opening. They share commodity in their similar talks, approaches, and explanations of social media trends and why they or are not bad for society. I personally don't care much about most trends because I've been desensitized due to stupid trends or actually scratch that. Stupid "challenges" that became trendy for a while which was pretty much idiots trying to gain a bit of fame for a bit and recorded themselves committing crimes or hurting other people or themselves. So yeah...... anyways this article works in conjunction with another assignment that we posted in a blog which honestly confused the heck outta me for a bit, but its all good.
One of the most well-known social media trends in recent years is the emergence of TikTok. The popular video-sharing app has changed the way people post their short films showcasing their creativity and talents. The platform's algorithm is particularly interesting as it adapts its content recommendations to user preferences and behavior. Many users appreciate TikTok's addictive features and potential to connect like-minded people around the world.
Influencer marketing is another trend in the market. Influencers are active users of social media who have a sizable fan base and are compensated to market goods and services to them. While some might argue that influencer marketing amounts to manipulation, others value the decided to show it gives the advertising sector. Influencers must disclose any sponsored posts, and followers can either approve or decline it.
Not all social media trends, however, are successful. Cancel culture is one of the most despised clothing trends. The phrase "cancel culture" is the practice of rejecting brands or people who have made harsh or improper statements. All of it is freaking stupid and makes no sense. Although cancel culture can make individuals accountable for their acts, it can also breed mob mentality and unfair targeting of specific individuals. That and bringing up stuff from 20 years ago and making them feel bad about them.
These reasons above mentioned are why I hate major trends, all they lead to is stupidity.
