In the first article of this week's readings called: "Social Media Data Analytics on Telehealth During the COVID-19 Pandemic," it was shown that more people are using telehealth services now post Covid-19 than they were before the pandemic. Telehealth is pretty much healthcare/healthcare consulting on the go through the means of virtual communication. Telehealth in my opinion has its ups and downs on how it might assist healthcare professionals such as doctors and physicians better understand their patients and deliver better care. It shows how social media has the ability to help doctors and nurses improve patient care. For example I believe that Telehealth is good for just basic checkups on how a patient is feeling but for more in-depth analysis I would rather leg it to the doctor.
The second part, titled "Work and Family During the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Role of Perceived Control," examines whether the epidemic has affected American work and family life. That is a very, very sensitive topic to millions of Americans and I am actually glad to have went over that this week. It implies the importance of feeling in control of a person's life at work and at home, which may have an impact on one's mental health and overall health. The Covid-19 pandemic shutdown caused a lot of stress to many people, at home and in workplace. Millions of American's lost their job and financial security due to pandemic restrictions and are unfortunately still feeling the effects to this day. The shutdown saw a rise in remote jobs with the article examining the benefits and challenges of remote work for employers and staff. I will give credit to the business who adapted and found a way to provide support to the new work and home arrangements everyone was forced into. Concerning homelife, unfortunately due to restriction there was also a rise in suicides which is always sad to hear. This was caused due to meetup restrictions and such. This is an important find as it shows the need for employers to support employees.
I will say that during the Pandemic, my social media usage as well as millions of American's usage increased probably ten-fold due to meetup restrictions. It was a natural response and thankfully I had my boys who I played videogames with and still broke the meetup restriction rules to help me out. I had to find a remote job during the pandemic due to losing my previous job. With the Pandemic ending, I shifted back to my basic social media usage due everything being opened again.
